Services Provided: Substance abuse treatment servicesType of Care: Outpatient treatmentSpecial Programs/Groups: Adolescents, Women, DUI/DWI offenders, Criminal justice clientsOutpatient Counseling is designed to meet the needs of those who are not in need of residential treatment, or due to other commitments in their personal and professional lives, need the freedom of outpatient counseling. The program blends individual, group and family therapy with substance abuse education. There are three levels of treatment intensity. An assessment determines which level is appropriate for each individual. More structured programs, such as the Florida Department of Corrections Outpatient, Driving Under the Influence and Misdemeanor Programs are available at First Step. Furthermore, a 16 week course on Anger Alternatives for Adults, available in Sarasota and Venice, includes weekly group ad individual sessions after an evaluation. For those who need a higher level of treatment, yet do not require residential treatment, First Step's Preferred Outpatient Program provides two hours of group counseling three days per week. This 16 week program includes group, family, and individual therapy, as well as substance abuse education and relapse prevention.First Step's Youth Outpatient Services are offered in Sarasota and Venice. This alternative to residential treatment offers individualized adolescent counseling services in a primarily group based environment. Through a continuum of care based on the adolescent's needs, these 8-16 week program offers flexibility to the client. Groups meet one or two times each week, and a mandatory parent group meets weekly. In addition, clients will be randomly selected for a urinalysis test. Everyday life can be overwhelming for a teen struggling with substance abuse. At First Step, adolescents are treated differently than adults because of developmental issues, differences in values and beliefs, as well as environmental considerations such as peer influence. First Step is dedicated to providing the highest quality professional care to adolescents struggling with alcohol and drug addiction.Family Safety Program: This program is designed to assist adults who have lost custody of their children due to substance abuse, or are currently under investigation by the Department of Children and Families or the Safe Childrenís Coalition. Anger management, parenting education, substance abuse therapy and case management are included. Parents in Sarasota and DeSoto Counties who have lost or are at risk of losing custody of children due to substance abuse are referred by the Department of Children and Families/Safe Childrenís Coalition.
