This is a technique I personally curated. For the purpose of this video we will call it the Power Breath. After practicing several different techniques over the years, this is one I use to ‘reset’ when I’m moving toward harmful coping mechanisms.
This exercise is to be done seated with your eyes open. Take caution as it may temporarily cause lightheadedness or a rush of heat or cooling to the body.
Take ten full big but quick breaths in and out. At the end of that last exhale hold the breath for 10 seconds, then at the top of that next inhale hold again for ten seconds. You may repeat a few times if needed and give yourself a big hug at the end.
Say something loving to yourself. The one I’m using currently is “I hold myself with loving care.”
This is important because even if I still engage in that behavior (because it’s difficult to change patterned behaviors of coping!) I hold myself with loving care.
